Secondary 1 Registration for Secondary 1 (2018)


Welcome to Juying Secondary School

An exciting journey awaits your child at Juying Secondary School. The transition from the primary school to secondary school environment can be a challenging time for both students and parents. We have prepared the following brief to keep you informed of the key administrative matters so that your child’s integration into the Juying Secondary School family will be a smooth transition process.



 

Juying Secondary 1 Registration Exercise



This section provides an overview of the important events and dates leading up to the Secondary 1 Installation Ceremony that require your action.

In particular, please pay attention to the following:

  • Submission of information (online and hardcopies)

  • School-related purchases, which should be completed before [Date to be updated].



1. Posting Results to Juying Secondary School


  • As announced on the latest MOE Press Release, the Secondary 1 posting results will be released on the release of results date.


  • The posting results can be accessed through any of the following channels:


  • Students are required to report on Friday, 22 December 2017 at 8.30 a.m. to the respective schools they are posted to (ie Juying Secondary School).




 2. Sec 1 Registration Day


2.1 Registration Date & Time

  • Secondary 1 Registration will take place on Friday, 22 December 2017 from 8.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.

  • Parents are strongly encouraged to meet and participate in the Secondary 1 Registration in Juying Secondary School.

  • Parents who are unable to do so may contact us at 6308 9898 to make an appointment for registration.


2.2 Principal’s Address

The principal’s address will commence at 8.45 a.m in the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH).

All are requested to be present.


2.3 Documents To Bring For Registration:

  • PSLE Results Slip

  • Student SmartCard (EZ-Link Card) or equivalent photo-identification

  • Medical Reports (if applicable)



3. Sec 1 Registration Day Programme Overview

Step 1

Register at the Registration Counter and check your child/ward’s name for the class to report to.

Proceed to Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) at Level 2.

Back of Class Column Collect your registration package and queue number. Then proceed to the front of the class column to be seated.

Your queue no. will be shown on the iPad placed in front of the teacher doing the registration.

A prefect will approach you to fill up the necessary forms through the iPad or laptop. (a) Pupil Profiling Form (b) Attendance Slip for Secondary One Installation Ceremony cum Campfire held on the [27 Jan 2018]

(c) [Optional] Schools’ Health Advisor Opt-out Form

Ensure that you have completed all the forms required on the checklist.

Proceed to purchase the school books, uniform, shoes and PE attire.

Complete the Survey for Secondary One Registration Day via iPad or laptop through the prefects.

MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS)

- To collect MOE FAS letter if you have already applied for FAS.

- To apply for MOE FAS/School-based FAS (meals and transport allowance)

- The application forms are available at the General Office on Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Counselling/Special Learning Needs

-  To inform the School Counselors of your Child’s/Ward’s Counseling/ Special Learning Needs

At the bookshop located at the AVA Room, please

  1. Make sure that the booklist is for the correct stream that your child/ward is placed in.
  2. Pass the booklist to the bookshop vendor.
  3. Collect a queue number from bookshop vendor.
  4. The queue number will be called once the package is ready for payment and collection.
  5. Check that the items are correct before making payment.

At the canteen where the school uniform, shoes and PE attire are sold, please

  1. Make sure that the school uniform, shoes and PE attire are of the correct size before making payment.
  2. All Sec 1 students are required to purchase the red EVEREST PE shirt.

Note: The books, school uniform and shoes will be available for sale on the days/timing stated in the booklists.

The school uniform, shoes, and PE attire will be available for sale in the school bookshop when school reopens from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.


3.2 Booklists

  • The Secondary 1 booklists will be issued on Friday, 22 December 2017 as part of the Sec 1 Registration Package.

4. ICT Matters for Students and Parents


4.1     AskNLearn Account/Password

All new Juying Secondary students are assigned a new AskNLearn account and password for communication and access to learning resources during their course of study.


The account will be used for all correspondences between the school and students. This account will also be used for e-learning assignments.


  • Both The UserID and Password will be the students’ NRIC number.
  • The AskNLearn account will be activated at 8.00 a.m on Friday, 22 Dec 2015
  • Students can access the AskNLearn portal via the school website.
The incoming Secondary One students are required to access to the account to update the following items in order to facilitate students’ administrative procedures in the future.

4.2 Juying Secondary Official Website


We have incorporated a list of features in our school website to facilitate better communication between parents and the school.


The features are as follows:

  • School Updates tab has been added to the homepage for greater visibility of key announcements.

  • Administrative Information link for general information on Juying Secondary School ranging from school rules to timetables & schedules.


4.3     Personal Data Privacy Policy (PDPP)

  • Juying Secondary School has put in place a personal data privacy policy in view of the enactment of the Personal Data Protection Act (Singapore) effective 2 July 2014.

  • This is with regards to Juying Secondary collection and use of data belonging to you or your child.

  • Juying Secondary School will/may collect, use, disclose and/or process your child/children and/or your personal data for various purposes.

  • For more details, please view the Privacy Policy on the Juying Secondary website.

  • If you have any questions relating to our collection, use, disclose and/or process of your child/children and/or your personal data or matters set out in this document, please email us at juying_ss@moe.edu.sg.  

  • And if you wish to withdraw your consent in part or as a whole, please state details of your withdrawal request and email it to juying_ss@moe.edu.sg.



5. First Day of School


  • The school year begins on Tuesday, 2 January 2018.

  • Students are expected to report by 7.20 a.m. at the School Multi-Purpose Hall in full school uniform (Juying Secondary School shirt and pants/skirt).




6. Secondary 1 R3IGHT Orientation Camp


6.1 Camp Dates The Secondary 1 R3IGHT Orientation Camp will be held in school from Tuesday 2 January 2018 to Friday 5 January 2018.


An online confirmation form has been uploaded to the AskNLearn portal.

  • Click on tab ‘Home’

  • Click on icon ‘Secondary One Installation Ceremony cum Campfire Response Slip’ and complete the form.


6.2 Edusave Form
  • Form F3: Edusave Form for Secondary 1 R3IGHT Camp.
  • Kindly complete *Form F3, to be completed on 27 December 2017, to authorise the use of your child’s Edusave for the Secondary One R3IGHT Orientation Camp.
  • *Form F3 will be issued on 22 December 2018 as part of the Secondary 1 Registration package.

6.3 Camp Packing List
  • A detailed and comprehensive packing list has been created for all camp attendees.

7. Secondary 1 Installation Ceremony


The Sec 1 Installation Ceremony will be held on Friday, 5 January 2018.


The ceremony, prior to the orientation campfire, is part of the school’s tradition where Sec 1 pupils are presented the “JYian Pearl” to induct them into the JYian family.


Parents are invited to attend this ceremony at 6.20 p.m on 5 January 2018 during which the principal will be addressing all parents/guardians of the Sec1 pupils. We look forward to meeting you at the ceremony.




8. General Administrative Matters


8.1      Acceptable User Policy (AUP)

The AUP is intended to prescribe effective, ethical and lawful use of ICT resources by students and ensure a conducive and safe virtual environment in our learning community.


  • This policy applies to the use of the ICT resources owned and managed by Juying Secondary School, as well as those brought in for use by students in Juying Secondary School.

  • All students are to comply with this policy.
