Principal's Message 2013

Message by Principal, Mr Seet Tiat Hee

Mr Seet 2013

I am delighted to be appointed by the Ministry of Education as the Principal-Designate of Juying Secondary with effect from 16 November 2012. While I was completing my Master of Education at the University of Melbourne in October, the current Principal, Mr Harris has already given me a warm welcome into the JYian family via email, thanks to today’s advanced technology.

Since then, I started working with the school leadership and publicity team to share with primary 6 parents the wonderful programmes at Juying Secondary. We are excited to unveil and share the brand new facilities at Juying such as the modern Dance Studio with floor to ceiling glass windows, overlooking the parade square, an Indoor Sports Hall, an Astro Turf Soccer Field, a Multi-Purpose Hall, newly furnished IT Resource Rooms, Chillax (a student recreation room), just to name a few.

In celebration of our upgraded facilities and to welcome Primary 6 pupils who are serious in their studies, a kind donor has pledged to support my proposal to set up an Academic Scholarship fund to reward up to 60 Primary 6 pupils annually who are confident in our commitment to provide a holistic education for their child (click here for more details).

I am grateful and thankful to Mr Harris for his leadership and commendable efforts over the last 8 years. I am also pleased to note that Juying’s core leadership team, together with the dedicated and committed teachers, has created the “OYSTER” philosophy in the school, where we share a common belief in

        - Providing Opportunities for all

        - Developing the Yearning for lifelong learning

        - Being Student-Centred in all that we do

        - Developing Talents

        Engagement with all stakeholders

        - Value-inculcation of 3Rs (Respect, Responsibility, Resilience)

Juying, as I understand it to be, is the hanyu pinyin of “聚英which means聚集英or   “penghimpunan bakat-bakat” in malay – the gathering of talents. It goes very well with my personal belief that every child is unique and each has his/her own talents waiting to be discovered, nurtured and developed to the best of his/her ability.

My mission as a school leader is to inspire and lead my staff to reinforce this shared belief as articulated in the “OYSTER” philosophy by providing a conducive teaching and learning environment to harness the potential and talents of each and every student in Juying, so that they become fine young ladies and gentlemen who are gracious, life-long learners, with a strong sense of moral integrity.

Come and join us at Juying Secondary in 2013 as your child embarks on his or her secondary school journey. I will work closely with the staff, parents and the community to provide an extraordinary experience to prepare your child for post-secondary options and for the test of life, not just a life of tests.

I hope to add value to Juying Secondary by building on the existing strengths of the school and further strengthening it with best practices that we could adapt, leveraging on my past experiences as the Vice-Principal of Raffles Institution (2001-2005) and Principal of West Spring Secondary (2005-2011), to bring Juying into the future as we scale the next peak of excellence together.
