Principal's Message 2014
Message by Principal, Mr Seet Tiat Hee
I want to begin by first thanking our caring and dedicated staff for making a difference in the lives of JYians and their future. We usher in 2014 with good news that our Class of 2013 has performed very well in the GCE O Level Examinations, having achieved value-added results for both Sec 4 Express and Sec 5 NA streams, surpassing the previous cohorts in the last 5 years. My heartiest congratulations to our teachers, pupils and their families!
2013 is a fruitful year whereby I have the opportunity to work closely with all the Juying stakeholders. The staff of Juying Secondary is a very special group of collegial and enthusiastic educators who strive to do their best for JYians. Together we have done a whole-school re-envisioning exercise to chart the new directions from 2013 to 2018. The new I3-mission tagline “Inspiring Learning, Inculcating Values, Impacting Lives” is our shared aspiration to remind all of us to prepare JYians to be future-ready by inculcating the R3IGHT values and inspiring in them a passion for learning so that they can become useful citizens. Our R3IGHT values stand for Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity, Graciousness, Humility and Teamwork – values that we believe will give JYians an edge in the future.
Our school also subscribes strongly to an ethos of H.E.A.R.T.S. in which every staff sets High expectations and standards, places strong Emphasis on learning; has theAutonomy to explore and innovate, builds quality Relationships, has Trust and Teamwork-collaboration, and has aShared purpose. This ethos forms the school culture of Care and Learning.
I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has approved our proposals to develop two distinctive programmes - Applied Learning programme (ALP) “Developing Confident and Competent Communicators through Oracy Skills Programme” and the Learning for Life programme (LLP) in the Performing Arts “iACE@ Juying” which stands for “I Appreciate, I Create and I Exhibit at Juying Secondary” . We believe that these two programmes are very good learning platforms to further support our efforts in providing a holistic student-centric education for our pupils.
To further complement our Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum, we have adopted the “7 Habits for Effective Teens” as a whole-school approach to inculcate in our pupils the right habits to lead a life in a truly effective way. The habits built on each other, creating a process of personal and interpersonal growth and development. All our teachers are trained facilitators in teaching our pupils these habits through integration of such habits in their lessons both in the classroom and during CCA.
I hope to create value in Juying Secondary by building on the existing strengths of the school and further strengthening it with best practices that we could adapt, leveraging my past experiences as a school leader to bring Juying into the future as we scale the next peak of excellence.
I also take this opportunity to thank all our stakeholders, especially our School Advisory Committee and our Parents’ Support Group members who have forged excellent partnerships with the school over the years. Together we will strive to achieve our vision of “a gracious community of life-long learners with strength of character”.
Together we will succeed!
