Principal's Message 2017
Message by Principal, Mr Seet Tiat Hee
I am very pleased that over the years we have seen the growth and development of the different cohorts of our students who continue to do the school proud, excelling and demonstrating the R3IGHT values in both the academic and character domains.
2016 was yet another year of celebration as our graduating cohorts achieved sustained value-added results and our Uniformed Groups achieved commendable outcomes with NCDCC achieving Gold and NCC (Sea) Silver for the Best Unit competitions. Our various Aesthetics groups did well in the SYF 2015 presentations and continued to showcase their talents at various platforms such as the 2016 SYF@Westmall, the River Hong Bao and the Esplanade. Our School Choir has achieved the Platinum award at the 2016 Show Choir competition. Our Applied Learning Programme “Developing confident and competent communicators through oracy skills” has taken shape and was featured by the Straits Times in August about the opportunities and platforms that Juying Secondary provides for every student to go beyond their comfort zone to speak in front of a crowd about an issue close to their hearts.
One of our signature programmes, Trips for Internationalisation Experience (TIE) cum Values-In-Action (VIA), has been re-conceptualised to give our Secondary 3 JYians an opportunity to take ownership of their own learning. They identify a social cause, plan a trip as a class with their Form teachers over a 5-month period, and explore their chosen social cause in greater depth in an overseas country of their choice.
The development in our students over the years has been noticed, commended and recognised by various stakeholders. Our healthy and steady increase in enrolment, the high percentage of Primary 6 pupils who chose us as their first-choice school, positive feedback by community and grassroots leaders, and several publicity articles in the local papers are definitely testaments of the trust and confidence of the community in our school. All these are possible because we have a dedicated team of teachers and support staff who are strongly committed in carrying out the school’s mission of “Inspiring Learning, Inculcating Values and Impacting Lives”. I am also very grateful to have very supportive partners who believe in us and support us in every possible way – our parents and our School Advisory Committee.
Our work as educators will never end. It is a journey that we have embarked on as a JYian family and community to bring out the best in our JYians and develop them to be a gracious community of lifelong learners with strength of character. We will continue to strive to do our best, guided by our school’s OYSTER philosophy and our H.E.A.R.T.S. ethos.
Together We Will Succeed!
